The nationalism that divides Korea
(2019) EKHK18 20191Department of Economic History
- Abstract
- This thesis uses quantitative data to understand to what extend the society is divided on key
issues regarding unification and culture. The analysis is based on a theory of new
nationalism in Korea that was developed to describe changing attitudes of the young
students, that stands in contrast to the ethnic nationalistic student movements of the 20th
century. The 2018 KINU Unification Survey serves as the primary source of data. The
findings of this paper largely confirm the theory and show, that there is a strong division
especially on topics regarding unification and culture
