- Abstract
- Despite its association with violence, drugs and crime the Free Party-movement is increasing in popularity. The purpose of this essay is to examine what attracts women and men to these types of arrangements. Through ethnography and interviews this study examines the subculture of the Free Party-movement and its essence of freedom. This study presents how participants construct boundaries between mainstream and subculture and through this process create identity, meaning and rules. This is exemplified by defining legal clubs as less cultivated, while increased value is placed on the subcultural which is portrayed as truly authentic through its separation from mainstream culture. (Less)
