Abstract
This study investigates how Unmanned Aerial Vehicles(UAV)can be used for wildfire fighting. The report provides anoverview of the nature of wildfiresandtechniques for preventing, detecting and fighting. The concept with unmanned aerial vehicles is presentedtogether with different classifications and legal obstacles and difficulties. To map the actual usage of unmannedvehicles for wildfire fighting a literature study is done togetherwith qualitative interviews. The report givesexamples of how UAVs and different sensors are used for surveillance and monitoring of wildfires. It also presentsexamples of howautonomous aircraftswith artificial intelligence technology could be used, capable of localisation and assessment of the situation before... (More)

The report givesexamples of how UAVs and different sensors are used for surveillance and monitoring of wildfires. It also presentsexamples of howautonomous aircraftswith artificial intelligence technology could be used, capable of localisation and assessment of the situation before firefighting personnel have arrived. It also takes up what limitations experienced users have encountered. It concludes that UAV can provide an alternative for the conventional methods of using manned aircraft for surveillance and monitoring, reducing risks and saving human and economic resources. (Less)
