To further analyze the material I have used attachment theory as well as psychosocial development theory. I have found that ambivalence towards the biological parents are a common feature in the stories, as well as feelings of being abandoned. The foster parents are described as someone who tries to take the biological parents place. Gradually a feeling of affiliation and belonging toward the foster family emerged. It appears that friends of the same age is an important factor in order to thrive in a new home. It also appears that the former foster children have had different ways to cope with their surroundings, such as provocative behaviour and selfharm. (Less)
