Abstract
This project is about food design. IKEA sent me on a mission to investigate the future of food and create useful products for that specific dish. I was told, that my main source
of inspiration should be space. Space as in stars, moons, planets and astronauts. The result could potentially be part of a future space collection of IKEA. If, when and how
was still not determined.

Experiments, literature, interviews, field trips, workshops, trend forecasting, market researching, lunches and dinners resulted in a food I named The Essence Ball. Broth in a solid, concentrated format with concentrated flavour. All food on the international
space station is dehydrated or freeze-dried and only needs hot water to be cooked and ready to eat.... (More)

Experiments, literature, interviews, field trips, workshops, trend forecasting, market researching, lunches and dinners resulted in a food I named The Essence Ball. Broth in a solid, concentrated format with concentrated flavour. All food on the international
space station is dehydrated or freeze-dried and only needs hot water to be cooked and ready to eat. Hence why The Essence Ball would fit on the menu, because you only need to add hot water to complete the dish.

he final collection of objects are designed for The Essence Ball. A bowl, a carafe, a pipette and a pair of hollow chopsticks. The connection to space is the form and function of the products, inspired by the laboratory environment on the ISS. Furthermore, the food and the scenario of the products when in use tell the full story of the connection to outer space. (Less)
