Seasonal Affective Disorder Lamp Redesign and Form Exploration

Malmhagen, Fabian (2019) In Diploma work IDEL01 20192
Industrial Design
Abstract
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a disease that threatens 8% of the population in Sweden. It is a problem without a
scientifically proven reason, but with a solution. From many different treatments such as medication and psychotherapy,
light treatment is the most easily available solution that can be used against SAD. The current market for SAD lamps is
bland and uninteresting. Through a personally challenging exploration within form, aesthetics, material, and produc-
tion, Sol was created. Sol is a wake-up lamp aimed at giving its user more energy during the dark winter periods.
