Upplevelse - en järnvägsstation i Byske

Abstract
The places close to where a new railway line and new stations are established, are hugely affected by the arrival of this new mode of transportation. New possibilities to travel further in the same time as before, or the same distance in half the time, significantly increases the opportunities for both commuting and for visiting places.

Historically, new villages or even towns have sprung up as consequences of a railway arrival. Other places have tremendous growth thanks to the railway. Today we can expect something along the same line, although perhaps less pronounced. The resulting boost to a society when the trains start to arrive is however dependent on the placement of the tracks and the treatment of the station.

Historically, new villages or even towns have sprung up as consequences of a railway arrival. Other places have tremendous growth thanks to the railway. The resulting boost to a society when the trains start to arrive is however dependent on the placement of the tracks and the treatment of the station.
Through this work I have studied a small town along the planned railway called Norrbotniabanan. This is a coast line in the north of Sweden. Taking the perspective of this small town I have studied questions about where to place the tracks and the station. I have also proposed a design for the station, in which my aim has been to give it a local character and to create a place for the people in the town which is more than a spot where you get on and off the train. En järnväg kommer till en ort som tidigare saknat tågtrafik. En station ska byggas och passas in i en befintlig struktur. Nya möjligheter till att pendla skapas, till arbetsplatser och utbildning på andra orter. Fler får också möjlighet att besöka orten tack vare järnvägen. Under järnvägsbyggandets guldålder för drygt 100 år sedan kunde orter få en enorm tillväxt tack vara den nya förbindelsen och i vissa fall uppstod nya orter till följd av järnvägen. Möjligheten för en ort att expandera i samband med ett nytt kommunikationsmedel som järnvägen finns fortfarande kvar, men för att utnyttja potentialen fullt ut måste rätt beslut tas.

I det här arbetet har jag arbetat med en mindre ort längs den planerade Norrbotniabanan längs Norrlandskusten. Jag har tagit utgångspunkt i just den här platsen och försökt att utifrån människorna och livet här utforma en station som erbjuder dem en plats som är något mer än att bara kliva av och på tåget.
Jag har undersökt hur bana och station kan placeras på ett sätt som är gynnsamt för orten. Jag undersökt hur stationen kan utformas så att den har lokal förankring och kan fungera som ett “ansikte utåt” och bli minnesvärd för besökarna. Målet har varit att skapa en stationsmiljö som på ett naturligt sätt blir en del i invånarnas vardag. (Less)
