- Abstract
- This study seeks to explore the relationship between rational party behaviour and variations of green ideology. The analysis includes the Swedish green party, Miljöpartiet de gröna, and the Swedish left party, Vänsterpartiet, in order to examine different presentations of green politics in relation to specific party behaviour. The theoretical framework is based on a dichotomy within the green ideology between deep ecology and ecomodernism. Furthermore, the rational political behaviour of these parties will be analysed using the rational choice theory.
The study will be conducted using a qualitative text analysis of party programmes from 1987, 1988 and manifestos written 2010, 2014 and 2018. The result of this study shows that there is... The result of this study shows that there is indeed a covariance between specific party behaviour and a given representation of green ideology. This is especially apparent in the manifestos 2010 and 2014 where both political parties showed an ambition to be included in a coalition government. However, it may be possible to ascribe these findings to a general ambition for both parties to be less radical in their ideological representation. Finally, further research is needed to understand the relationship between party behaviour and ideological representation. (Less)
