Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
Abstract
This study analyses how Zambia recommends and prioritizes the implementation of sexual and reproductive health and rights during 2018-2021. The aim is to analyse if and how the rights and freedom support each other’s level of implementation. The study was conducted with a qualitative content analysis and intents to provide an in depth-knowledge of Zambia’s work on these issues. To analyse the supporting function of freedom and rights is of value because it can motivate states to implement other freedom and rights in their national jurisdiction. The focus of this study is limited to girls, women and LGBTQ people and has three main categories: Sexual Health, Reproductive Health and Sexual Rights. Six sub-categories will be presented:... Six sub-categories will be presented: HIV/AIDS, gender-based violence, contraception, abortion, infertility and teenage pregnancy. Two theoretical perspectives have been used, James Nickel’s theory of “Indivisibility” and Yvonne Hirdman’s theory “The Genus System”. Furthermore, the Guttmacher-Lancet Commission’s definition of sexual and reproductive health and rights has been analysed in combination with the Zambian Strategic Communication and Advocacy Report for 2018-2021. The result supported Nickel’s theory of indivisibility of freedom and rights. Furthermore, the study resulted in Zambia prioritizing reproductive health and focusing on girls and women with the exclusion of LGBTQ people. In summary, the support between freedom and rights can facilitate the implementation of other freedom and rights. However, a national interest is required. Therefore, it is not possible to conclude if the method is enough to justify states implementing the SRHR and depends on the country’s context and national interests. (Less)
