- Abstract
- Research has shown that psychotherapy is efficient in reducing interpersonal problems, but few studies have used interpersonal problems as a measure of outcome in a naturalistic psychotherapeutic setting. A couple of studies have examined if the level of interpersonal problems can predict psychotherapy outcome, but the results differ. The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation between interpersonal problems and psychological symptoms/functioning, change of interpersonal problems and psychological symptoms/functioning, and to what extent interpersonal problems can predict outcome for clients in a trainee-given psychotherapy setting. Data from 290 clients which had been collected during 2014 and 2017 for “Outcome and Prediction... (More)

Data from 290 clients which had been collected during 2014 and 2017 for “Outcome and Prediction of Outcome in Psychotherapy Training Programs project” at the Institution for Psychology at Lund University where analyzed. Inventory of Interpersonal Problems; IIP-C and Clinical Outcomes in Routine Evaluation - Outcome Measures; CORE-OM were used at pre-post measure. The results showed that there was a correlation between interpersonal problems and psychological symptoms/functioning, and that clients in a trainee-given psychotherapy setting had reduced interpersonal problems, as well as psychological symptoms/functioning. The largest effect sizes were found for clients with higher level of interpersonal problems. Interpersonal problems did not predict psychotherapy outcome. Since this study is naturalistic, more research is needed for the ability to draw conclusions about causality. (Less)
- Abstract (Swedish)
(Less)
