Abstract
With the rapid development of the autonomous drive (AD) technology, driverless vehicles may soon be reality. As one of the most renowned car manufacturers in the world, Volvo Car Group are investing in and developing the technology. As a part of this development, this thesis was initiated at the Trunk Trim Department.
The purpose of this thesis has been to research the area of luggage compartments in AD vehicles and to develop concepts within the field. As fully AD vehicles do not exist today, focus has been on understanding the market and the current development. These insights helped to form possible future scenarios.

A key part in the project was the identified user needs, which were extracted from interviews and benchmarking. These user needs in combination with the future scenarios were the foundation of numerous concepts. The concepts were evaluated and two concepts were finally chosen to be further developed.
The chosen concepts focus on making the luggage compartment size-adjustable and giving the user a high level of integrity. The concept that was developed furthest is possible to implement in the models Volvo produces today, however the full potential is not utilized until it is used in an AD vehicle. A prototype of that concept was designed and manufactured, and built into a Volvo XC90. (Less)
