- Abstract
Our society is facing a changing demographic with an increasing proportion of the elderly, and in addition there is an increased need for housing adapted for this older population. There is much in the physical environment that can be adapted to meet the needs of the coming generation of elderly people. The need of healthcare for today’s elderly will look different from previous generations because of longer life expectancy and an increasing need to treat age-related illnesses. A customized and well-planed environment can give the elderly a higher quality of life and give them the opportunity to maintain their independence at a high age. Based on studies of relevant literature, regulations, previous research and scientific methods that are important for the subject, I have investigate how the elderly of the future, can live independence and feel secure in their home. The focus of my work has been to generate a conceptbased solution that can bring quality of life for the elderly in all phases of aging, from ”go-go” to ”go-slow” to ”no-go”. The aim is also to highlight the opportunities for elderly to continue to be a part of the society through activities and social meetings. The result is presented through a proposal of about 40 apartments of several types of housing for the elderly. The dwellings are intended for people who require constant care in a assisted living facility. I am investigating how architecture can create a good living- and working environment in this kind of housing. (Less)
