Abstract
This report concern to assess the fire safety of the Police Academy’s facilities located in Västra Hamnen, Malmö. The report is carried out for educational purposes in the course Fire Engineering Risk Assessment (VBRN70), which is held during the third year of the Fire Engineering Program at the Technological University of Lund.
The purpose of the report is to evaluate the fire safety and, if necessary, propose improvements to increase the safety towards fires.
The analysis is limited to only consider the personal safety and not damage to environment or property. The Academy only use two floors in the five-story building, which are the ones considered in this report.

This report concern to assess the fire safety of the Police Academy’s facilities located in Västra Hamnen, Malmö. The report is carried out for educational purposes in the course Fire Engineering Risk Assessment (VBRN70), which is held during the third year of the Fire Engineering Program at the Technological University of Lund.
The purpose of the report is to evaluate the fire safety and, if necessary, propose improvements to increase the safety towards fires.
The analysis is limited to only consider the personal safety and not damage to environment or property. The Academy only use two floors in the five-story building, which are the ones considered in this report.
Initially, a visit to the site was conducted in order to identify probable fire scenarios. From a preliminary hazard analysis, two scenarios were chosen and studied further.
To evaluate the safety of the occupants of the building the time to critical conditions due to a fire was compared with the evacuation time. This was done with qualitative reasoning, graphs for heat release rate, hand calculations and the fire simulation tool CFAST to determine the time to critical conditions. For the evacuation time the simulation tool Pathfinder was used and finally a sensitivity analysis was performed on the obtained results.
From the studied scenarios in the form of probable worst case it was determined that the existing fire protection is sufficient. The evacuation time does not exceed the time to critical conditions and although the level of fire protection is considered to be adequate some suggestions of improvement are presented. (Less)

Rapporten behandlar brandteknisk riskvärdering av lokaler för Polisutbildningen vid Malmö Universitet, belägen i stadsdelen Västra Hamnen. Denna rapport utförs i utbildningssyfte i kursen Brandteknisk riskvärdering (VBRN70) som bedrivs tredje året på brandingenjörsprogrammet vid Lunds Tekniska Högskola.
Rapporten syftar till att utvärdera den brandtekniska säkerheten, och vid eventuella brister, föreslås förbättringsförslag.

För att utvärdera säkerheten jämfördes tiden till kritiska förhållande mot utrymningstiden. Detta utfördes med kvalitativa resonemang, effektutvecklingskurvor, handberäkningar och brandsimuleringsverktyget CFAST för att fastställa tid till kritiska förhållanden. För utrymningstiden nyttjades utrymningssimuleringsprogrammet Pathfinder och slutligen genomfördes en känslighetsanalys på erhållna resultat.
Från de studerade scenarierna i form av troliga värsta fall konstaterades att befintligt brandskydd är erforderligt. Utrymningstiden överstiger inte tiden till kritiska förhållanden. Även om brandskyddet anses tillräckligt ges några förbättringsförslag. (Less)
