- Abstract
- Barnahus is a Nordic model for collaboration between different authorities regarding the issue of child victims of crime. As this means that different work logics interact, some argue that Barnahus can be seen as affected by juridification, which is a term that describes how law enforcement is prioritized over care-oriented services. The purpose of this study was to explore how coordinators of different Barnahus branches experience their role in the tension field between law enforcement and care-orientated services, as well as the roles of other authorities; how they interact and affect juridification processes. The chosen method consisted in qualitative semi-structured interviews with four coordinators from three different branches around... (More)

The purpose of this study was to explore how coordinators of different Barnahus branches experience their role in the tension field between law enforcement and care-orientated services, as well as the roles of other authorities; how they interact and affect juridification processes. The chosen method consisted in qualitative semi-structured interviews with four coordinators from three different branches around the south of Sweden. As a theoretical framework in the analysis of the results, I have used symbolic interactionism, more specifically the dramaturgical perspective. I have also employed some basic theoretical understandings of hidden power dynamics in collaboration practices. The study found that the coordinators play an important role in making the collaboration smoother by acting as mediators between the distinct authorities. Furthermore, they also act to prevent the progression of juridification. Simultaneously, the study found that the inclusion of children in Barnahus remains a development area. Hence, there is a need to discuss the meaning behind the term “best interest of the child” and what it means to the different authorities, which is a suggestion for further research on the topic.
