Abstract (Swedish)

(Less)
Abstract
The building and real estate sector is one of the sectors that emits the most greenhouse gases. For a single year, the construction industry is responsible for greenhouse gas emissions of 21 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent, which corresponds to 21 per cent of Sweden's total emissions. Of the total emissions of 21 million carbon dioxide equivalents, 12.8 million tons come from domestic greenhouse gas emissions and 8.2 million tons from import goods.

Of the total emissions of 21 million carbon dioxide equivalents, 12.8 million tons come from domestic greenhouse gas emissions and 8.2 million tons from import goods.

Every company operating in the construction industry has an environmental, social and economic impact on society. For companies that want to take their responsibility, procurement can be a strong tool for contributing to a more sustainable development in the industry. By integrating sustainability into their procurement policy, organizations can manage risks and opportunities for sustainable, environmental, social and economic development.

The purpose of the thesis is to investigate how companies in the construction industry use procurement as a tool to obtain a more sustainable industry, and what would be required of the companies to pass the ISO Certification 20400 which helps one to achieve a sustainable procurement.

The method chosen for the thesis is qualitative studies. In the qualitative study, a literature study has been conducted that has focused on how to work to cope with an ISO certification. The interview
study has been done through semi-structured interviews with encouraging techniques, so that the respondents have had a great opportunity to talk freely about their experiences.

The results from the work have been obtained through a comparison study between literature and interview. What you have tried to see is where the similarities are and what do companies need to do better to cope with a certification. The result of the comparison study was that in many areas one works in reality as the certification desires. However, deficiencies have been found where companies need to clarify certain tasks to work as the certification desires.

The conclusion is that the industry right now is not mature for work fully with the certification. However, many organizations already work with sustainability requirements in their procurement, without them calling or thinking that it is a step towards reaching a procurement that is sustainable.
