Abstract
There have been many different studies made about social workers and their work environment, most of these studies have had the same result. The result has been that social workers have a high workload and the case count is also high which often leads to mental stress. The purpose of our study was to investigate which factors social workers believed impact their psychosocial work environment. We wanted to see if the factors that the social workers mentioned would be related to the demand- control and social supportmodel. To investigate this we chose a qualitative method and used semi-structured interviews to interview six different social workers. To analyze the empirical data Karasek and Theorell (1990) demand- control and supportmodel... (More)

To investigate this we chose a qualitative method and used semi-structured interviews to interview six different social workers. To analyze the empirical data Karasek and Theorell (1990) demand- control and supportmodel was used. The results showed that the social workers were satisfied with their psychosocial work environment. Majority of the interviewed social workers had the experience that the demands put on them were high but that they could handle this because they also had high self-control. Something everyone mentioned was that they had good social support from their colleagues and that having this support caused less stress. Overall the results show that high demands can be handled by higher self-control and good support. (Less)
