- Abstract
- The purpose of this study is to contribute with knowledge in the field of internal crisis communication by studying how employees understand and experience proactive crisis work. In modern society, there is a general perception that the number of crises is increasing. Today, the issue is not whether a crisis will happen but when. Modern crisis research shows the important role of employees in internal crisis management, but research from the employees' perspective is underdeveloped. This research studies employees' experiences of proactive crisis work using a narrative method. Greimas actantial model is used as a framework for analyzing the story's depth... (More)

Modern crisis research shows the important role of employees in internal crisis management, but research from the employees' perspective is underdeveloped. This research studies employees' experiences of proactive crisis work using a narrative method. Greimas actantial model is used as a framework for analyzing the story's depth structure and construction. Empirical material is collected through qualitative semi-structured interviews with employees at Energimyndigheten. Energimyndigheten is a government agency that works to improve Sweden's energy supply. They work actively with proactive strategies to be able to handle future crisis and thus be successful in the long term. The results from this study shows that the employees feel that the organization has good crisis preparedness. Strategies that are perceived to have a good effect on crisis preparedness are decentralized leadership, an open culture and confidence in the employee's competence. Factors that adversely affect crisis preparedness are a limited financial budget and specific tasks that lead to a fragmented organization. Furthermore, the results show that employees' experiences of phenomena are very complex and that different experiences create different narratives. (Less)
- Abstract (Swedish)
Greimas aktantmodell... (More)

(Less)
