Abstract (Swedish)
(Less)
Abstract
This thesis work has been done in collaboration with Knowit Core in Malmö to develop the next generation of a system that handles leases, used by the housing and street office of Malmö city. The purpose of this thesis has been to research how new technologies can be used to enhance the useability and workflow in an outdated system.
Interviews and focus groups have been held with users from Malmö and Lund to develop a requirements specification for the new system. To further gain an understanding of cities without a dedicated software for handling leases an interview was also held with the office in Helsingborg. Interviews and focus groups have been held with users from Malmö and Lund to develop a requirements specification for the new system. To further gain an understanding of cities without a dedicated software for handling leases an interview was also held with the office in Helsingborg. The requirements specification that was developed after this elicitation process was used as a live document to be edited throughout the whole project.
Software was researched to find out if there was a simple way to produce a visual prototype of the new system. To test the improvements, it was decided to develop an MVP (Minimum Viable Product). A programming language that supported a high level of modularity was researched and the decision landed on React. React is a component based javascript library developed by Facebook. A backend server was developed with Node based Express js which is a minimalistic framework that supports a large library of plugins.
This thesis work has resulted in an MVP that demonstrates functionality that enhances the workflow in the outdated system as well as a requirements specification with requirements for the functionality that has been implemented, as well as requirements for future development. A list of functionalities which the stakeholders are asking for from a future system has also been compiled, in the case that such a system was to be developed. (Less)
