Abstract (Swedish)
Because of increased volumes in trade, maritime transport has been developed into an important determinant for economic development. Considering 124 countries over three time periods, this study aims to present the general correlation between economic growth and seaborne trade. The result is achieved by constructing a two-way error component model with fixed time and country effects consisting of four control variables and the three maritime variables: quality of port, container port traffic and a liner shipping connectivity index. The result shows that a one percent increase in the quality of ports increases the economic growth by 0.0004 percentage, the same increase in container port traffic results in an increase in economic growth by... Additional tests conclude that the level of significance and effect of these two variables are greater when they are included separately in the regression. (Less)
