The study consists of statistical data analysis of secondary data and was carried out using the statistical program SPSS. The empirical data consisted of register data from the Police's internal reporting system and contained the information that was needed to be able to answer the study's questions about where and when assault crimes are most common and which social categories constitute suspects and victims. The theoretical perspectives that inspired our study and facilitated our analysis are Routine activity theory, Crime pattern theory, gender theories of crime as well as victimological theories. The results showed that the areas with the highest crime rate regarding reported assault crimes in Landskrona are “Centrum”, “Öster” and parts of “Karlslund”. Furthermore, the results showed that the crimes mainly occur during the summer and during the weekends. The results also showed that the social categories for both the suspects and the victims highly contain men in the age-group 18-24 and 30-39 and that they in most cases are unknown to each other. The conclusions that were made are that assault crimes occur in places with high crime rates and in environments where the social and physical formation facilitates for the offender to carry out his or her criminal acts. A potential reason to why young men are the majority of those who practice and are victims of assault may depend on social structures about masculinity. (Less)
