Department of Economics
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to examine the impact of income inequality on economic growth in Sub-Saharan Africa. The study is structured as a regional study on Sub-Saharan Africa, followed by a case study of South Africa that is conducted by using the results in the regional study. The methods for estimating the impact of income inequality on economic growth consist of panel regression analysis. The results indicate a statistically insignificant impact of income inequality on growth and variations in the results depending on the breakdown of the measurement of income inequality, the Gini coefficient.
