- Abstract
- My aim of the project was to create a table with the same purpose as the Memphis Group had in the 1980s, furniture that does not have the function as the main topic, the experimental playfulness with shapes, materials, and colors are the primary.
My method has focused on the Memphis Group's philosophy, to be inspired by the coloring, design of volumes and materials, and also the aim of provocation. The materials, porcelain, and plastic are chosen from a historical perspective to create an interaction between then and now. The full-scale mock-up is made of cardboard and sealing foam and the final product was made on a scale of 1: 3. The porcelain is slipcast in plaster molds and the plastic is punched through a laser printer.

The full-scale mock-up is made of cardboard and sealing foam and the final product was made on a scale of 1: 3. The porcelain is slipcast in plaster molds and the plastic is punched through a laser printer.
My table has strong influences of the Memphis Group’s philosophy and the result of my project has become an experimental porcelain molding with tactile surfaces and attempts to take the product to a level with a hierarchical structure where porcelain carries plastic and the provocation makes the table hardly functional.
My bachelor’s project has been an experimental project with porcelain which has required many hours in the workshop. The work has been very educational but especially fun. (Less)
