Metod: En systematisk litteraturstudie. Sökningar i sex databaser identifierade åtta
randomiserade kontrollerade studier (1232 deltagare).
studier. En studie visade reducerad konsumtion i båda grupper medan egenvårdsförmågan
ökade... (More)

studier.
(Less)
Abstract
Background: This systematic review examined the effects of ear acupressure and
auriculotherapy for cigarette smoking cessation (SC).
Methods: Searches in six databases located eight randomized controlled trials (1232
participants). Methodological quality was assessed using the SBU review template for RCT
studies. Results of included articles were synthesized using narrative analysis.
Results: Studies evaluating ear acupressure as monotherapy showed significance in one of
three cases for outcome smoking cessation. One case showed reduced consumption in both
groups and significance for outcome self-efficacy in one case. Studies evaluating real ear
acupressure/body acupuncture versus sham/placebo ear acupressure/body acupuncture

Results: Studies evaluating ear acupressure as monotherapy showed significance in one of
three cases for outcome smoking cessation. One case showed reduced consumption in both
groups and significance for outcome self-efficacy in one case. Studies evaluating real ear
acupressure/body acupuncture versus sham/placebo ear acupressure/body acupuncture
showed significance in two cases of outcome SC cessation, one case of reduced consumption i
both groups, outcome self-efficacy showed significance in one case and two cases of no
significant differences for outcome quit smoking. Ear acupressure combined with body
acupuncture with or without SC-programme showed significance in the combined group for
outcome non-smokers. Ear acupressure versus pamphlets of SC or no intervention showed
significance for consumption and SC/quit smoking in three of three cases. Ear acupressure
versus ear acupressure with support and education in a SC-programme showed significance
for SC/quit smoking in one case. Ear acupressure as monotherapy versus body acupuncture as
monotherapy showed in one case significance for body acupuncture in outcome non-smokers
and relapse. Ear acupressure versus NRT (Nicotine Replacement Therapy) showed in one
case significance for outcome SC/quit smoking in NRT-group. Side effects from ear
acupressure were mild and few.
Conclusion: Results from a clinical perspective show some evidence for improved results for
SC using ear acupressure in addition to counselling, support and multimedia interventions in a
SC-programme. (Less)
