Abstract (Swedish)

The Stasi played a major role in the development totalitarianism. By exercising extensive control and espionage activities consisting of so-called unofficial collaborators in order to track down and ward off political opposition, the Stasi succeeded in penetrating the innermost sphere of privacy.

In addition to large-scale espionage activities, the Stasis' tasks also consisted of terrorizing opponents of SED and socialism. In order to fulfill its mission in this area, the Stasi resorted to controversial methods, to say the least.

This resulted in a great deal of fear and mistrust among the population, which was beneficial in maintaining the SED's one-party government. In order to justify its actions and restrictions on human rights, the Stasi, as the SED's ultimate support, was able to invoke that these were necessary in the way of the final and flawless classless society.
