Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
Abstract
Background: The covid-19-pandemic has shifted the method of education toward distance- based learning for universities throughout Sweden. This could affect students experiences of occupational balance, which is known to be associated with health and well-being, but today there is a lack of studies in this area. Increased insight into how students experience occupational balance could help universities adapt the educational form.
Purpose: To describe how involuntary distance-based education has affected young adult college students’ experiences of occupational balance during the covid-19-pandemic.
Method: This thesis uses a qualitative study design. The authors conducted semi-structured interviews with eight university students, who were... (More)

Purpose: To describe how involuntary distance-based education has affected young adult college students’ experiences of occupational balance during the covid-19-pandemic.
Method: This thesis uses a qualitative study design. The authors conducted semi-structured interviews with eight university students, who were recruited through snowball sampling. A qualitative content analysis was conducted to analyze collected data.
Results: The distance-based education had a negative effect on occupational balance, although it varied between individuals. Participants experienced increased responsibility to maintain a healthy structure of everyday life. Physical and psychosocial environmental changes made it more challenging to study. Participants experienced increased control of when to perform different occupations and reduced stress.
Conclusion: This thesis gives insight into how students experience occupational balance during involuntary distance-based education. Further research is warranted to investigate how students experience occupational balance during a pandemic. (Less)
