Abstract
Volunteers have become a clear part of the Swedish wild fire fighting strategies, but during previous large wild fires the results coming from these extra resources have varied. The report is investigating how the voluntary help has been used in order to get a good result and what strategies to avoid. The result shows that a well-structured hierarchically controlled organization within the volunteers is a method to get an effective collaboration. Furthermore, contact between the brigade and voluntary services should be maintained during the off-season of wild fires to strengthen the cooperation. There should be structured ways to engage in voluntary services and more ways to use these resources during a wild fire should be examined.
