- Abstract
- Donald Trump has surprised the world with a different way of presidency ever since he entered as the US president 2017, especially within the trade field. His divergent presidency has caused uncertainty around the world, both politically and financially. This study seeks to find an impact on the trade flow between the US and the EU at the time since Donald Trump entered as president. In order to examine this, paneldata consisting of 28 country pairs and their associated trade flows during the period 2009-2019 is used in an OLS-regression where the Trump-effect is captured by a dummy variable. The US is the only importer and the EU countries represent the exporters in the gravity model used for this study. The overall conclusion from the empirical analysis is that there is a negative effect on transatlantic trade since Donald Trump entered as the US president 2017. This effect is likely caused by president Trump since his entry into presidency is the major event that has occurred when it comes to the trade relationship between the US and the EU since 2017.
