This study follows a qualitative analysis procedure to investigate how social workers’, who works at the social services, working environment is described in podcasts. This study is based on two different podcasts where individuals talk about the working environment based on their professions. The purpose of this research is to investigate how the social workers working environment is described and to study various challenges faced in the social services arena. Moreover, the theoretical framework for this study is based on three different theories; The bureaucratic ideal model of Max Weber, Hirschman's theory about Exit, Voice and Loyalty and the FIRO model.
The empirical material shows that the working environment for social workers is embossed with stress, high staff turnover, unclear work content, high workload and problems with threats and violence. The underlying causes of this heavily stressed work situation was often tied to the high demands on the social workers and the lack of available resources. One of the prime solution which are mentioned in the material, is the importance of a stable working group, a good collaboration and a succesful leadership. Furthermore the study shows the impact that the social media’s negative description has on the social workers and the work environment. (Less)
