- Abstract
- People have a basic need to be part of a community, to feel group affiliation, and to establish stable social bonds with other people. This need is achieved by an individual being part of different group constellations. The purpose of this study was to investigate high school students' self-reported experience of community and sense of group belonging. At the same time, we looked at the covariation between the social ties between parents and young people's search for other group communities and possible norm-breaking behavior. A quantitative study has been conducted by collecting data through a survey. 106 answered questionnaires were taken through a convenience sample and analyzed using statistical analysis. Some well-proven theories in the field are social psychological theory and social control theory which was applied in the study through a number of relevant selected concepts. The results of the study showed that a lack of community in the home could contribute to young people being drawn to other groups, such as groups of friends and possibly developing a norm-breaking behavior. - Abstract (Swedish)
