Abstract
Sweden is facing a series of climate changes like the rest of world. The climate changes will contribute and subsequently change how we evaluate the risk of natural disasters. An important question is, therefore, how the municipal rescue services in Sweden are working towards climate change adaption. The aim of this study is to investigate how involved the communal rescue services are within the work of climate adaptation. The study is initiated with a literature review and interviews conducted with officials at MSB (The Swedish Civil Contingencies agency) and a

The study is initiated with a literature review and interviews conducted with officials at MSB (The Swedish Civil Contingencies agency) and a
considerable amount of municipal rescue services.

The study can conclude that the municipal rescue services work with climate change to varying degrees and the work is under development in several parts of the country. This survey shows that there is a greater commitment in planning for interventions than there is in the work with physical planning. The survey shows that a clearer system is required in the work to achieve long-term perspective and for natural disasters that have not yet been experienced to take part in the adaptation work. There is ample evidence for the worsening climate situation, however the interviews conducted imply that long-term planning is not yet widespread. The interviews indicate that data on a national level, such as flood mapping are not widely used by rescue services. The influencing factors on the work towards climate change adaption has been discovered to be previous experience, geographical location, resources, and size. (Less)
