Abstract (Swedish)
Enkäten utformades med hjälp av följande tre existerande frågeformulär, “School principals’ Transformational leadership styles and their effects on teachers’ self-efficacy”, “Basic Psychological Need Satisfaction Scale –... Satisfaction & Frustration Scale - Work Domain”. 31 personer deltog i undersökningen. (Less)
Abstract
The purpose of the thesis is to investigate if leadership characterised by trust has a positive effect on the motivation of middle-school teachers in municipal schools in Sweden. The description of trustful leadership is based on Bringselius theory, where a leader's trustworthiness is characterised by their ability, integrity and benevolence. Motivation is described on the basis of Self-determination theory and the three basic psychological needs autonomy, competence and relatedness. The data collection was done with an online survey and the sample was selected by a stratified sampling method. Limitations were made to municipal middle-schools in Sweden's 14 largest cities across different socio economic areas. 31 people participated. The... (More)

Limitations were made to municipal middle-schools in Sweden's 14 largest cities across different socio economic areas. 31 people participated. The survey was constructed with the help of the three existing metrics: “School principals’ transformational leadership styles and their effects on teachers’ self-efficacy”, “Basic Psychological Need Satisfaction Scale – Work Domain” and “Basic Psychological Need Satisfaction & Frustration Scale - Work Domain”. The data was analyzed with a multiple regression analysis. The results showed that a trustful leadership had a positive effect on motivation among municipal middle-school teachers. Benevolence in a leader had the highest significant effect on motivation, especially on autonomy. Benevolence is the factor that showed the strongest correlation with motivation. An interesting observation was that a leader's integrity had a negative effect on leadership's prediction on motivation. (Less)
