Abstract (Swedish)

(More)

(Less)
Abstract
The municipality of Lund is in the process of exploring opportunities for a digital society. This work consisted of a need’s assessment within the municipality’s inclusive community setting unIkT. The mapping involved individuals with autism spectrum disorder, and how their essential needs could be satisfied with the help of a digital solution.

The data gathering included interviews and brainstorming with unIkT and the Autism & Asperger Association. Affinity diagrams were used to create structure in the data, which helped to find significant needs among the participants at unIkT. The results from the data analysis pointed at two essential needs. The first was to improve the participants’ mental health. The second was to maintain a... (More)

The second was to maintain a better physical activity. The goal of this study was to develop a solution to meet the participants’ needs regarding physical activity. In doing so, the first need could be satisfied as well.

The end product resulted in a prototype that mimicked a mobile application. To succeed in creating a useful solution, user-centered design was applied, and the design of the prototype followed guidelines for accessible design. The prototype stimulated physical activity by offering challenges, which were adapted to the user’s preferences. The challenges included various training exercises and exergaming. Exergaming offered the user a different way of training, requiring the user to perform physical movements to interact with the game.

The conclusion of this study could be stated to three significant factors, that could succeed in stimulating physical activity among the participants at unIkT. The first factor was simple instructions to exercises, in form of animations. The second factor was individually tailored challenges, which offered appropriate and entertaining training. Finally, the third factor was exergaming. The results of the work showed that exergaming was appreciated by all users and could be the new way of exercising in the future. (Less)
