Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

Abstract
In this cross-sectional study, we have investigated the presence of symptoms of depression and anxiety and whether this was related to perceived quality of the couple relationship in 91 new visitors in a family counselling setting. Data was collected using the HADS and Valentine scale self-report questionnaires. We also investigated whether there was a difference between the sexes, those who had children at home or not, the age of the respondents and the age of the children in these respects. We have also for an exploratory purpose asked whether the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic has affected one's own mental health and/or the quality of the couple relationship and whether there was a difference between the sexes in these respects. We found that a large proportion of those seeking family counselling experienced anxiety at a clinical level. Furthermore, we found a statistically significant correlation for men regarding how they rated for self-perceived mental illness and the quality of the couple relationship. We also found a statistically significant difference between those who were younger and older among our respondents and between those who had younger and older children in both cases regarding how they experienced the quality of the couple relationship. Those who were >38 years of age rated significantly lower in terms of the quality of the couple relationship than those who were ≤ 38 years of age and those who had children ≥6 years of age rated significantly lower in terms of the quality of the couple relationship than those who had children < 6 years of age.
