Abstract
Being born and raised in the Netherlands gives me a unique perspective on cycling, which I take with me wherever I go. This combined with being an urban designer means I have many thoughts and ideas when cycling through a city. Living in Lund for the past three years has cemented the idea that cycling could be improved here through a shift in priority of the municipality.

This thesis project is therefore focussed on improving the cycling system in Lund through the research question “How can Lund be improved to show that cycling is a high priority?”. The research is done on three levels, the city level, the social level, and the street level. For this research, a comparison is made between Lund and the Dutch city of Leiden. These cities... (More)
Being born and raised in the Netherlands gives me a unique perspective on cycling, which I take with me wherever I go.

These cities share a similar history and culture which makes them suitable for comparison.

All three levels result in conclusions and recommendations of how things can be improved in Lund. For the first two levels, city and social, this takes the form of a written statement. For the street level, a detail design is made of a part of the city centre. This detail design improves traffic safety and clarity of the infrastructure while also adding qualities that will improve city life. (Less)
