(2021) PPTP06 20211Department of Psychology
- Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
- Abstract
- The aim of this study was to reach a deeper understanding of and knowledge about psychotherapists experiences ofhow to make the client visible and feeling seen in psychodynamic psychotherapy. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with eight psychotherapists. The data was analyzed by use of thematic analysis and nine themes were identified. The main results showthat therapeutic presence and focus on the child ́s emergent self and its unmirrored parts could form important aspects of making the client visible. The study also indicates that “making visible” is a phenomenon that occursatthemoment as well as in a process over time. A movement in distance between client and therapist and an integration of affective and cognitive processes... (More)

The study also indicates that “making visible” is a phenomenon that occursatthemoment as well as in a process over time. A movement in distance between client and therapist and an integration of affective and cognitive processes maybe needed if the client is to be made visible in a deeper sense. The study hints that fear in both client and therapist canbe an aspect of seeing and being seen. Finally, the result suggests that organizational factors and flexibility in knowledgeview influence the prerequisites of making the client visible in a public health care therapeutic setting. The results are discussed in relation to their implication for theory and practice and also in relation to future research about making the client visible and feeling seen. (Less)
