Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
Abstract
Children and adolescents with Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are at greater risk of experiencing anxiety symptoms of various kinds. Previous studies have shown the effect of Cognitive behavior therapy to help reduce anxiety in patients with ASD. In this literature review, we examine the scientific and methodological quality of seven randomized controlled trials (RCT), as well as which CBT interventions can be helpful against social anxiety for children and adolescents with ASD. All articles we have reviewed argue that CBT interventions that focus on social skills and anxiety treatment indicate positive improvement even after one-year follow-up. Numerically, all the studies we have examined have high values, but if you look at key factors... (More)

All articles we have reviewed argue that CBT interventions that focus on social skills and anxiety treatment indicate positive improvement even after one-year follow-up. Numerically, all the studies we have examined have high values, but if you look at key factors such as Power analysis and clinical significance, the scientific quality varies. The studies that compared CBT interventions with alternative treatment show that CBT does not give better results than the control groups. In summary, the studies show that increased social skills, improved relational interaction and decreased anxiety symptoms, overall, decreased ASD symptoms. This work has given us insight into how complicated and laborious it must be to carry out an RCT with high scientific quality, both reliability and validity. (Less)
