- Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

- Abstract
- There are widespread rumors that the substance MDMA (metylendioximetamphetamine) has therapeutic properties. Some researchers are speculating that MDMA could be used as an aid in psychotherapy, especially for patients suffering from trauma and/or PTSD (posttraumatic stress disorder). Since 2008, a few RCT (randomized controlled trials) studies on the matter have been published. The researchers themselves claimed the preliminary results were very interesting and promising, and the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) has called this method “a break through therapy”. This study is a systematic literature review to explore what the scientific community has discovered regarding the clinical value of MDMA. This study found seven RCT-studies of... (More)

This study is a systematic literature review to explore what the scientific community has discovered regarding the clinical value of MDMA. This study found seven RCT-studies of various sizes. The first study was shut down prematurely because of political reasons, hence that study had statistically weak results. The other six studies were completed and all hade very similar results. The studies claimed that the method had very few negative effects and low rates of attrition. Also, the method had good effects for treating treatment resistant PTSD. However, the studies are flawed, mainly because of small populations and the use of active placebo. (Less)
