Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
Abstract
The aim of this study was to make a systematic literature study by examine ten RCT studies regarding trauma-related shame and PTSD. The aim was to identify to what extent CBT-treatments would effectively treat shame arisen from trauma incidents, and also regarding how shame has been treated in studies of trauma treatment. The examined studies used different CBT-treatments and studied different populations in five different countries. All treatments intended to treat or investigate different kind of traumas and/or trauma-related feelings. The total sample vas 846 individuals, both children and adults, both men and women. The participants were recruited differently. We discovered that only two studies had trauma-related shame as their direct... (More)

The examined studies used different CBT-treatments and studied different populations in five different countries. All treatments intended to treat or investigate different kind of traumas and/or trauma-related feelings. The total sample vas 846 individuals, both children and adults, both men and women. The participants were recruited differently. We discovered that only two studies had trauma-related shame as their direct research question. In the other studies it was studied as an additional finding. Our results showed that, with one exception, all the treatments reported a reduction of trauma-related shame as a result of their given treatment. Our results also showed that trauma-related shame is an under-investigated area. The researchers speculated that the disclosure of shameful memories and acceptance from others and repeated exposure could be factors that helped to reduce shame. The study designs did not allow for drawing conclusions about what specific components in the CBTtreatments
contributed to reduce trauma-related shame. This should be further investigated in future research studies. (Less)
