Abstract
In this experimental study, we investigated how one-session treatment with exposure and response prevention (in vivo) works for individuals diagnosed with OCD according to DSM-5. The effectiveness of the one-session treatment ERP was compared with a control group who received psychoeducation in the form of reading a text on cognitive theory and emotion theory. The baseline, which consisted of self-assessment forms BAI, Y-BOCS and OCI-R as well as ERP treatment-specific estimates, enabled inter- and intra-group comparisons before and after intervention. A total of 14 participants with obsessive-compulsive disorder were followed, of whom nine received one-session treatment ERP and five participants psychoeducation. No significant differences... A total of 14 participants with obsessive-compulsive disorder were followed, of whom nine received one-session treatment ERP and five participants psychoeducation. No significant differences between ERP and the control group were found. Within group comparisons in the ERP-condition however, showed medium to large effects for both obsessive-compulsive symptoms and anxiety in most of the comparisons one and four weeks after treatment. Furthermore, we found that the participants’ avoidance and their beliefes in negative assumptions about themselves, others or the future decreased after ERP. Finally, the participants' perception of the risks of anxiety-laden situations dropped significantly. Overall, results indicate that a single session with ERP, comprising 90 minutes, had a positive effect on OCD, a serious and difficult-to-treat condition. The results persisted at follow-up four weeks after the treatment intervention. The results are promising and warrants further research in larger samples, in the development of effective treatment methods and interventions for various psychiatric conditions such as OCD. (Less)
Abstract (Swedish)
Inomgruppsjämförelser i... (More)

(Less)
