Problem statements:
How do building- and demolition companies transition towards a circular economy?
What requirements does the developer place on the contractor regarding waste management in a demolition project?
How do contractors plan for recycling and reuse of demolition materials?
What are the obstacles faced towards a circular economy?
What happens to the materials that can’t be reused?

Purpose:
The purpose of this study is to investigate how waste manage and minimizing during demolition projects and how much materials that goes to recycling and reuse. The study intends to find out how the building and demolition companies transition towards a circular economy.

Method:
The methods used to find solutions to the problem statements are a qualitative interview study and a literature study. To achieve this, 10 building- and demolition companies and one real estate company were interviewed. The content of the interview was questions about how the companies manage waste and how they transition towards a circular economy. The literature study is based on information obtained from reports from authorities, theses and current science. The purpose was to deepen the knowledge but even understand it better.

Conclusion:
The results of the interview study show that most companies in one way or another tries to transition towards a circular economy. All companies thought that it is important for the society to transition towards a circularity in the future. Some companies have the opportunity to work towards it more, which is because their conditions are better. To achieve a circular economy, companies tries to reduce their waste by recycling and reusing materials. The developer usually requires that only the legal requirements must be fulfilled, which is something that must be adapted and improved in the future. Two major obstacles to transition towards a circular economy are time and cost. This is because the work takes longer if materials are to be reused, which means that the project will be more expensive.

Frågeställningar:
Hur arbetar bygg- och rivningsentreprenörer mot en cirkulär ekonomi?
Vilka krav ställer beställaren på entreprenören om avfallshanteringen i ett rivningsprojekt?
Hur planerar entreprenörerna för återvinning och återbruk av rivningsmaterial?
Vilka hinder finns det med cirkulär ekonomi?
Vad händer med de material som inte går att återbruka?

Syfte:
Syftet med studien är att undersöka hur avfall hanteras och minimaliseras under rivningsprojekt och hur mycket återvinning och återbruk som sker av rivningsmaterialet. Studien har även som avsikt att undersöka hur bygg- och rivningsentreprenörer arbetar mot en cirkulär ekonomi.

Metod:
De metoder som har använts för att besvara frågeställningarna är en kvalitativ intervjustudie och en litteraturstudie. Intervjustudien utfördes genom att 10 bygg- och rivningsentreprenörer samt ett fastighetsbolag deltog. I intervjun ställdes frågor om hur avfallshanteringen sker i deras verksamhet samt hur de arbetar för att uppnå en cirkulär ekonomi.Litteraturstudien genomfördes genom att studera rapporter från myndigheter, vetenskapliga artiklar och aktuell forskning. Syftet var att fördjupa våra kunskaper i ämnet men också för att förstå ämnet bättre.

Slutsatser:
Resultatet av intervjustudien visar att de flesta företagen arbetar för en cirkulär ekonomi på ett eller annat sätt. Samtliga företag tyckte dessutom att det är viktigt att samhället framöver ställer om mer mot en cirkularitet. En del företag har möjligheten att arbeta mot det mer vilket beror på att deras förutsättningar är bättre. För att uppnå en cirkulär ekonomi försöker företagen minska sitt avfall genom att sortera och ta tillvara på material för återbruk. Beställaren ställer oftast att enbart lagkraven ska vara uppfyllda, vilket är något som måste anpassas och förbättras i framtiden. Två stora hinder för att uppnå en cirkulär ekonomi är tiden och kostnaden. Detta eftersom arbetet tar längre tid om material ska återbrukas, vilket medför att projektet blir dyrare.
