The main purpose with our study was to get a deeper understanding regarding case workers in social services and to understand their experience concerning sick leaves. Our study is based on qualitative interviews among nine respondents with variation in their professional titles. The respondents have been chosen according to a goal-directed selection which means that we have targeted individuals with appropriate experience. Also, we used snowballs sampling which means that we have reached respondents with help from our interview persons. Although they all have in common that they work as case workers in social services and in different municipals in Sweden. All our interviews have been performed with digital instruments, such as Zoom meetings and by telephoning. To summarize the results of our study, the conclusion is that sick leave depends on both leadership and workload that the case workers experienced. Along the study we used a theory based on Maslows theory of needs and motivation. We have found that leadership can be connected to Maslows theory regarding motivation among the social workers. The way a leader leads the employees can depend on how aware the leaders are about the case worker’s needs. There are multiple factors that play an important role regarding the complexity that leaders and managers are facing in the relations with their employees. (Less)
