Abstract (Swedish)

(More)

(Less)
Abstract
This report is an evaluation of the fire safety of “Cube” in Lund, Sweden.

The analysis of the different scenarios showed that three out of the ten scenarios chosen were deemed to be of a higher risk for human life than the remaining seven. The three scenarios were A - fire in the reception located on the ground floor, B - fire in the office space located of the third floor and C - fire in the restaurant located on the ground floor. These three scenarios were therefore chosen for further evaluation and simulations in Pathfinder and FDS were conducted to investigate the time required for evacuation and the time until critical conditions were reached.

The simulations for evacuation gave required egress time, thereafter a sensitivity... (More)

The simulations for evacuation gave required egress time, thereafter a sensitivity analysis was conducted by altering different variables and observing how this affected the time. The altered variables that were pre-evacuation time, available exits, walking speed and the number of people in the simulation.

The simulations in FDS showed that critical conditions occurred in a few points in rooms that were connected to escape routes, which meant that these specific routes could not be used for evacuation. The building however contains several escape routes on each floor, therefore the building is considered safe enough for people to evacuate.

The sprinkler system has been assessed as the fire technical system to have the biggest impact on the heat release rate in the building.

The safety measures suggested in this report is to keep good routines for maintenance of the sprinkler system and to keep well-functioning systematic fire protection work, to ensure a safe evacuation in event of a fire. (Less)
