Karltorp, Andrea LU (2021) PSPR14 20211
Department of Psychology
Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

(Less)
Abstract
Devotion seems to be an unexplored research topic. This study may be the first within the field of psychology to examine what it is like to experience devotion in the moment. The aim of the study was to understand devotion, what fosters its presence and what hinders its presence. A qualitative approach was undertaken, and the participants, all of whom worked within the creative realm, were interviewed about their experiences of devotion. Four interviews were transcribed and analyzed using Thematic analysis. The result showed five themes: Devotion is “here and now”, Being open for devotion, Devotion knows no boundaries: to be “one with all”, Devotion is highly meaningful: “this is where I will be”, and Fear as an obstacle to devotion. The... (More)

The experience of devotion shares similarities with concepts like Flow, Play and Bhakti. What makes devotion stand out is that it’s driven by emotion. This study sheds light on a seemingly new research field, one in which hopefully others soon will join. (Less)
