Abstract
More and more people are getting into gaming. Mostly young males who identify themselves as gamers. The gaming culture has grown rapidly over the last few years and some of the best gamers in the world can make a living by playing games. Esports is a new field that does not get much attention which makes it interesting to study. The purpose of this study is to increase knowledge about gamers' motivation sources in the computer game CS:GO. To answer this research a survey was conducted and an interview was conducted on active gamers in CS:GO. The theoretical framework that was used in this research was Self-Determination Theory (SDT), with a primary focus on intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. The results from the survey showed that these... (More)

The results from the survey showed that these gamers reported highlevels of intrinsic motivation. The interview was used to get more in-depth knowledge and increase the knowledge in the field. It is important to discuss these results in the context of how small this field is in the academic world, as well as the importance of representative samples for this kind of research. Finally, the author calls for more specific studies in esports and gaming to increase the knowledge in a growing field. (Less)
Abstract (Swedish)
(Less)
