Abstract
The aim of this study has been to examine if, and if so how, teachers in grade 1-3 in Swedish elementary schools are educated in preventing boy’s violence against girls. The methods used for finding this information has been interviews, a questionnaire and a study of the curriculum for the teacher education. The study furthermore was based on theories around social control and hegemonic masculinity to discover if there is an importance of working against boy’s violence against girls at such a young age. Beyond this the author wanted to see if there existed or had existed habits of excusing boy’s violence for “love actions”. The study furthermore was based on theories around social control and hegemonic masculinity to discover if there is an importance of working against boy’s violence against girls at such a young age. Beyond this the author wanted to see if there existed or had existed habits of excusing boy’s violence for “love actions”. The result of the study showed that almost none of the teachers had experienced education about children’s violence against each other, and none had had any education specific to boy’s violence against girls. Based on theories like social control and social bonds this is problematic and could result in violent men when the boys grow up. Lots of the teachers in the study also thought there could be a risk for the violent boys to grow up and become violent men, as well as a risk of the girls
growing up accepting the violence, if the teachers did not intervene early. The study also showed that even though there had been a tendency to excuse the boy’s violence as “love actions” this had become less frequent over the years. (Less)
