The study uses a qualitative method with semi-structured interviews that will show what different professions in psychiatric care experiences regarding the relative’s participation. The professions will also present what they experience about what benefits and challenges they experience while working with relative’s participation. The study's analysis uses two theories, empowerment and recognition, to highlight the importance of supporting the patient to the fullest instead of damaging their self-esteem.
The results demonstrate the following themes:
1) that relatives can contribute to a greater holistic perspective of the patient’s situation by contributing information about the patient
2) that relative’s participation can be stated in many different ways
3) that relatives can be an irreplaceable support for the patient in the transition from childhood to adulthood. (Less)
