Furthermore, the intention was to examine the role of the health care counselor regarding this matter. This was investigated through semi-structured interviews with seven staff members at an unlocked psychiatric ward in Sweden. To analyze the results a Holistic perspective on health was applied to the result as well as Goffmans theory of Stigma as an additional theoretical complement. The main results show that the staff faces challenges such as a strong tradition of support regarding clinical recovery, a fragmentized support system as well as a tendency of a pessimistic view on recovery in general among the staff. The healthcare staff also expresses the importance of social work in the daily work with the patients. The unlocked psychiatric unit seems to have de-stigmatizing benefits as well as it promotes the staff's possibilities to support personal recovery and, in some ways, make up for the challenges mentioned above. The unlocked doors, a well-functioning multi-professional teamwork, a healthy working environment and a coordinating health care counselor with a psychosocial perspective works in line with a holistic view on health and promotes the possibilities for the staff to support the personal recovery of the patient.
