Therefor the aim of this thesis is to map building developer and fire engineer’s opinion and understanding about sustainable fire safety. The report also aims to develop an explanation of the concept and investigate what incentives clients in the construction and real estate industry need to invest in and prioritize sustainable fire safety methods.

The report consists of a literature study followed by a survey study aimed for fire engineers and clients in construction and real estate sector. The results indicate that the developers and consultants need economic incentives, such as a demonstrable reduction in building carbon footprint. It also shows that to date no one is taking the responsibility to raise the question, which is essential for a change. (Less)
