This study investigates how threats and problems are constructed within the Swedish work with cybersecurity. In response to the problem the Swedish government decided to set up a National center for cybersecurity with the ambition to improve the country's security and spread awareness. This study is based on the understanding that reality is shaped discursively through the constructive role of language and wants to understand how threat-images and problems are... (More)
This study investigates how threats and problems are constructed within the Swedish work with cybersecurity. Due to digitalization and increasing problems with cyberthreats, cybersecurity has become a priority on the political agenda. In response to the problem the Swedish government decided to set up a National center for cybersecurity with the ambition to improve the country's security and spread awareness. This study is based on the understanding that reality is shaped discursively through the constructive role of language and wants to understand how threat-images and problems are constructed. Given that it plays a crucial role in how people tackle the problem. Through a discourse analysis and together with the Copenhagen School's securitization approach, this study aims to highlight how cybersecurity is constructed by the National Cybersecuritycenter. The result of the analysis shows that the center constructs cyberthreats as present and that new cyberthreats have increased with societal development and crises, such as the corona pandemic. Furthermore the center empathizes that Sweden is lacking the workforce needed to operate and maintain the cybersecurity needed. (Less)
