The purpose of CIP was to ensure that individuals with needs in both social services and health care are met. The methodology used in this study is based on qualitative interviews with eight professionals, four from social services and four from primary care, in the region of Skåne. In the analysis, we apply conceptions from new institutionalism and Erving Goffman’s dramaturgical perspective in order to illustrate both an individual and an organizational perspective. The results show that the professionals have positive attitudes towards CIP and entails a holistic view. The imperative function of CIP is both viewed as a promoting factor and an obstacle. Moreover, the findings in this study indicate that CIP is a time-consuming process and that there is an presence of ambiguity regarding the division of responsibilities. This is found to result in that the perspectives of the professionals can collide in the CIP meeting. In addition, we observe that hierarchical power appeared in the CIP meetings. Moreover, the findings indicate that professionals adjust their roles based on prevailing norms in a CIP meeting. In general, social workers have low expectations of professionals in primary care while the care staff have high expectations of social workers. Furthermore, in the latter case the requirements are often unreasonable. Interestingly, several interviewees have high expectations of themselves in the CIP meeting. In conclusion, this study shows that there are several improvements to be implemented in order for CIP to fulfill its purpose. (Less)
